Oka Foods has been invited by our valued partner, Thomas Co., Ltd. (featured in SHINKA News No. 48), to launch the La France Project! We will be writing about the project, its activities, and our thoughts in a four-part series!

What is the La France Project?

The La France Project began when we were invited by Thomas Co., Ltd. and felt a shared passion for the project.

The event involves Oka Foods using the "Fruit Tree Ownership System" to become the owner of a La France tree and, with the help of local farmers, simulate the experience of growing and harvesting the fruit.

The Fruit Tree Ownership System was born from the desire of Thomas Co., Ltd. and DEWA Valley Farm/Tokairin Orchards to solve the issues facing agriculture and the local community.

We will talk about the thoughts that Thomas Co., Ltd. and DEWA Valley Farm/Tokairin Orchards put into this project in Episode 2. ~Let's go meet the farmers~!

Okafoods' Thoughts

We would like to spread awareness and new value through La France.

We hope that all our stakeholders will enjoy and be pleased with the growth and harvest of La France pears.

The hope is that the seeds of awareness will gather and grow into fruit, and this is the thought that inspired the name La France.

"Ra🍐KIDU tree"

This is his name.

The state of "La KIDU Tree"

*4/25 Germination

*5/13 Fruition

*5/23 The fruit is getting bigger little by little

*5/31 500 yen size

*6/23 It's starting to look like La France

*7/7 About 4cm in size

*Pollination has been completed! I'm looking forward to seeing the fruit grow. (June 29th)

The tree produces a lot of fruit, and the fruits are carefully selected to grow larger.

We are currently thinning the fruit, leaving only the best fruit.

This process results in sweeter, larger La France apples.

We will eventually be able to harvest about 200 fruit, but at this stage only about 400 to 600 have borne fruit.

From this, only the finest are harvested and delivered to us.

However, efforts are underway to see if the many fruits that are discarded during the cultivation stage can be used for something!

It would be interesting to create a system that would not waste anything and would contribute to farmers' income!

In August, La France project members will be visiting farmers with this excitement! We will hear a lot of stories directly from the farmers, including their thoughts, and we will report on that in Episode 2. Please look forward to the next episode!
