The name of the hairtail comes from its long, slender, shiny appearance.

Hairtail fish are called by various names. They are abbreviated to "tachi," "tachio," or "tachinoyo," and in Fukushima they are called "sawaberu" (from the Western sword saber). Incidentally, in Chinese they are written as "katanauo" (sword fish).


Characteristics of hairtail

Although it varies from fish to fish, the flesh around the abdomen gives off a distinctive hairtail smell. However, the smell fades when cooked and does not affect the flavor of the dish.
