Recently, the number of people suffering from food allergies has increased, and some people may experience severe anaphylactic shock, putting their lives at risk.

The importance of providing information about such allergens was recognized, and in 2015, "specific ingredients" and "items equivalent to specific ingredients" were labeled to prevent the occurrence of allergic symptoms.

Nine years have passed since then, and the foods that cause allergies have also changed.

In particular, the number of people with allergies to nuts has increased sharply, and walnuts have been added to the list of specified ingredients, increasing the number from seven to eight. From April next year, the grace period will end and labeling will become mandatory.

In addition, matsutake mushrooms, a representative autumn delicacy, were included in the 21 items that were classified as specific ingredients, but because the number of immediate cases was not in the top 20 and there were no shock cases, they were removed, and macadamia nuts were added.

As the number of cases involving cashew nuts is expected to increase in the future, procedures are planned to be taken to revise food labeling standards from fiscal year 2025 onwards.
